Walk from the Plaza to the Parish Church
Walk from the Plaza to the Parish Church
Why Bantayan’s Plaza-and-Church Circuit Works
A self-guided circuit of Bantayan town plaza and Saints Peter and Paul Parish Church ⬈ is free. View the façade and reliefs, then step inside quietly if the doors are open and no service is underway.
The municipality ⬈ dates the parish to 1580 and the present church to 1839–1863. Nearby civic buildings and old homes are best viewed from public streets.
Come from Santa Fe, Not Cebu City for the Day
Bantayan town is different from the Santa Fe ferry hub. From Santa Fe, ask for the town plaza and agree on the local fare. Cebu City travellers first need a bus to Hagnaya, a ferry and onward transport, a route the provincial guide ⬈ estimates at four to five hours.
Allow 45–75 minutes, or up to 90 minutes if the church is open. This outing fits an island stay far better than a quick day trip.
Give Worship and Residents Priority
Cover shoulders and knees, lower your voice and follow parish photography rules. Masses, weddings, funerals and private prayer take precedence.
Do not enter private gates or touch old church fabric. Carry water, watch uneven paving and cross roads carefully. Ferry tickets, island transport, food and private attractions cost extra; church donations remain voluntary.
