Cebu’s Next Tourism Push Focuses on Food, Wellness and Local Experiences
Cebu’s hospitality sector is calling for more investment in visitor infrastructure, transport connections and tourism businesses as the island strengthens its role as a gateway to the Visayas and Mindanao. More than 150 hotel and tourism representatives discussed the direction at Cebu Hotel Connect 2026, held in Mactan on September 24 and 25. The conversation focused on experiences tied to culture, food, wellness and local communities rather than simply adding more rooms.
What the hospitality sector wants to improve
Industry leaders said Cebu needs reliable connections, well-planned infrastructure, trained staff and closer cooperation between hotels, local businesses, educators and communities. Convention and meeting travel is also expected to remain important as the island gains larger event facilities. The goal described at the summit was broader than hotel construction: visitor spending should support transport providers, restaurants, tour operators and small enterprises while preserving the character of the destination. These are investment priorities and proposals, not a list of newly confirmed hotels or attractions.
What travelers may notice
The immediate choice for visitors remains practical: compare accommodations by location, recent reviews and transport access, and use accredited operators for tours. Over time, the current push could bring more locally rooted food, wellness and cultural products, especially beyond the main business districts. Travelers can support that direction now by choosing experiences that employ local guides and suppliers and by allowing time for towns outside Metro Cebu. Any announced hotel, route or attraction should still be checked individually before booking because the industry discussion does not guarantee a specific project or opening date.
